Attendees of the Art is Ageless show in Benson last Saturday were treated to huge walls of children's and adult artwork from Cochise County.
In the case of the schools, there were participants from as far as Bowie and Palominas, and as near as St. David and Benson.
Schools from across the county were invited to participate.
Principals were encouraged to disseminate the information to their K through 8th-grade teachers in time for the kids' participation for the one-day show.
Artists from the area were contacted and invited to bring in their work. It was an unjuried show, and there were no prizes awarded, just the chance for the public to see what is available in our area.
The Benson High School Jazz Ensemble played during the day, and cider and homemade cookies were served to all who came out.
There was also a craft table for kids of all ages to make ornaments for their Christmas trees and a necklace and bracelet, handmade by a local artist, was raffled off.
The sponsors were delighted with the steady stream of visitors, many of whom had also attended Christmas on Main St., in downtown Benson.
This is an annual event sponsored by the San Pedro River Arts Council. Teachers in disciplines other than art are encouraged to think about an art component to what they teach. With the arts budget cut to the bone in this state and many others, it is important that children be given the opportunity to express themselves artistically.
